Homann Holzwerkstoffe GmbH publishes first Sustainability Report to international GRI standards
Munich, August 19, 2022 – Homann Holzwerkstoffe GmbH, a leading European supplier of thin, refined wooden fibreboards for the furniture, doors and coatings industries, today published its first Sustainability Report on the basis of the internationally recognised standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and incorporating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Fritz Homann, Managing Partner of Homann Holzwerkstoffe: “Being a leading supplier of MDF and HDF boards who makes intensive use of natural resources such as wood, we have firmly anchored sustainable action in our corporate philosophy. To effectively continue our sustainability efforts in the coming years, we worked intensively last year on the development of a sustainability strategy for Homann Holzwerkstoffe Group and defined key goals.” As part of the strategy process, the company first carried out a two-stage analysis of its environment, which covered not only the perspective and the status quo of Homann Holzwerkstoffe Group but also material external trends, legal and social requirements as well as expectations and experiences of the company’s stakeholders. On this basis, a materiality analysis was carried out, which resulted in the definition of three fields of action reflecting the Group’s corporate values: “We care for our relationships” is the first field of action and places the focus on credible and transparent action and communication and on promoting employees. Attractive apprenticeships help win young talent, while investments in the further training of the workforce offer significant added value – not least when it comes to managing the generational change. The second field of action, “We face up to the challenges”, reflects Homann Holzwerkstoffe’s commitment to automating production, reducing emissions and using renewable energy in order to fight climate change and contribute to a cleaner world. “We deliver performance” comprises material topics such as the Group’s high cost-effectiveness, efficiency and competitiveness as well as high service quality but also aspects such as the procurement of wood and the use of recycled wood as well as innovation. For each field of action, Homann Holzwerkstoffe has set itself strategic goals with fixed deadlines, whose achievement will be checked regularly using measurable performance indicators. The first Sustainability Report is intended to give the company’s stakeholders a deeper insight into the most important fields of action, goals and activities of Homann Holzwerkstoffe GmbH. Going forward, the company will report regularly on the progress of its sustainability activities in an annual Sustainability Report. The full Sustainability Report for 2021 and an abridged version of Homann Holzwerkstoffe Group’s sustainability strategy are available for download at https://www.homann-holzwerkstoffe.de/en/company/sustainability/.
