What Happened?

On May 7, 2025, Cleveland-Cliffs released its first quarter 2025 financial results, reporting a larger than expected adjusted loss and an 11% year-over-year revenue decline. The Company explained that its results were “negatively impacted by underperforming non-core assets and the lagging effect of lower index prices in late 2024 and early 2025.” Additionally, the Company announced that it plans to idle six steel plants to “consolidate operations” and “withdraw from loss-making businesses.”

On this news, Cleveland-Cliffs’ stock price fell $1.34, or 15.8%, to close at $7.15 per share on May 8, 2025, thereby injuring investors.
