Energy savings of up to 80 percent: technotrans builds large-scale refrigeration plant for OTTO FUCHS in Meinerzhagen

  • Two-megawatt plant with an order volume in the seven-digit range
  • Energy savings of up to 80 percent
  • More than 50 joint projects realised in 30 years

Meinerzhagen, November 7, 2022 – technotrans and OTTO FUCHS, two international heavyweights in their respective industries, are both located in Meinerzhagen: The two companies have been cooperating on site for more than a quarter of a century – a period during which they have completed roughly 50 joint projects. The realisation of a large-scale cooling system with an order volume in the seven-digit range for the new OTTO FUCHS foundry in Meinerzhagen represents the largest project of both companies to date.

The first project was the development and installation of a cooling tower system at the end of the 1980s. This comparatively small project became the foundation for a close and cooperative partnership that has lasted for more than 30 years. However, today's projects play in a different league: In 2019, OTTO FUCHS invested in an expansion of the foundry in Meinerzhagen in order to increase the production capacity. The cooling technology for the casting systems is supplied by technotrans. The new cooling system is a container solution (dimensions: 22 x 6 x 7 meters) with a cooling output of 2 MW. For comparison: A standard single-family house has a heating requirement of approximately 8 to 9 kW.

OTTO FUCHS saves up to 80% of energy
Regardless of its size, the system is highly energy-efficient. An operating cost calculation, which had been carried out in advance, proves that OTTO FUCHS saves up to 80% of energy compared to standard concepts on the market, depending on the level of utilisation. "We really enjoyed the project. Not only because it is the largest project realised for OTTO FUCHS so far, but also because everything involves a very high level of technical expertise and we were able to truly implement a state-of-the-art solution without any compromises," says Fabian Heuel, sales division manager and member of the management of technotrans solutions GmbH, Meinerzhagen.

The successful and fast completion of the project during the COVID-19 pandemic was made possible in particular by the close and well-coordinated cooperation between OTTO FUCHS and technotrans over many years. This is confirmed by Florian Franze, supply project engineer at OTTO FUCHS: "With technotrans, the whole package is simply right – from both companies being located in Meinerzhagen and the fast consultations, the state-of-the-art expertise in thermal management up to the trustful cooperation. We are highly satisfied with the solution developed by technotrans."
