Sustainable value chain: Amprion decides to reduce Scope-3-emissions The transmission system operator Amprion has committed to reducing emissions along its value chain by almost 60 percent by 2032. The company has thus reached a further milestone in the implementation of its climate protection strategy. Amprion is underlining its claim to operate sustainably in the expansion and conversion of the electricity transmission network. "As a transmission system operator, we are contributing to the Green Deal in Germany and Europe. I am pleased that we have also committed to an ambitious but realistic CO2 reduction path for our value chain. For Amprion, this is a further step on the path to climate neutrality for our organisation," said Amprion CEO, Dr. Hans-Jürgen Brick. The voluntary commitment follows the requirements of the Paris climate protection agreement on the 1.5-degree target. Reduction paths for different types of emissions As early as 2022, Amprion set a target for reducing CO2 emissions from its own sources (Scope 1) and purchased energy (Scope 2). The company aims to reduce these by at least 63 percent by 2032. Scope-3-emissions arise from purchased goods and services, business travel and commuting to work, etc. The reference figure for this type of emissions is the length of powerlines constructed. The base year is 2021. All reduction targets were defined in accordance with the internationally recognized Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). Peter Rüth, Chief Financial Officer of Amprion said: "Sustainability is firmly anchored in our corporate and financing strategy. With the reduction target for Scope 3 emissions, we are also sending a further signal to our investors that demonstrates the importance of this issue for Amprion." Emission reductions through grid expansion By integrating renewable energies into the energy system, Amprion is making an important contribution to ensuring that Germany can achieve its climate targets by 2045. Thus, grid expansion promotes climate-neutral electricity production today and in the future. By transparently showing the emission reductions they enable, companies can more easily show the positive effects on the environment and society.
