ENCAVIS continues to grow: a new wind farm (12 megawatts) is being built in Bad Arolsen-Landau (Hesse)

Hamburg, 17 March 2024 – The Hamburg-based wind and solar park operator Encavis AG has acquired a wind farm project with a generation capacity of 12 megawatts (MW) from ABO Energy. The wind farm with two wind turbines is being built in Bad Arolsen-Landau, approximately 30 kilometers west of Kassel. The construction being carried out by ABO Energy has already started, so the wind farm should be connected to the grid by October 2025.

Bad Arolsen-Landau is already the fifth wind farm project that we have implemented with ABO Energy in our home market since 2023. We are growing continuously, and this acquisition brings us another step closer to the goal of our Accelerated Growth Strategy by 2027. By then, we want to have 7 gigawatts of generation capacity connected to the grid in Europe,’ says Mario Schirru, CIO/COO of Encavis AG.

We are delighted to continue our good partnership with Encavis with our Bad Arolsen-Landau wind farm and hope that we will connect many more projects to the grid together. Around a quarter of our almost 500 wind turbines erected in Germany are located in Hesse, a quarter of which are in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. So we have longstanding ties to the region,’ says ABO Energy Managing Director Dr. Thomas Treiling.

Two Vestas V162/6.0 wind turbines with a hub height of 169 meters will be used. The two wind turbines each have a generation capacity of 6 MW. Once completed, the wind farm will produce an average of almost 30 gigawatt hours (GWh) of green electricity per year. The purchase of electricity has been agreed via an EEG feed-in tariff with a term of 20 years. Vestas will be responsible for maintenance during this period.
